“Peace not as the world gives”, this scripture has been ringing in my head since we have been shut down. To be honest, I’m not sure I understood this scripture until recently, the world is giving nothing but anxiety and worry at this point but God promised us peace in the midst of it.
People are losing their jobs, others are put at high-risk of getting the virus because they have to keep working, people are getting sick, others are dying, parents are having to spend 24hrs with their kids, and couples are having to spend 24hrs with each other. The world is in utter chaos, if a working world was where you got your peace then I’m genuinely sorry for you. Let me tell you how I get mine!
I’ll start by saying my walk with God is not one of perfection but progression so like you I have relied on the “working world” for my peace, but when I feel overwhelmed, I try to remind myself that God is my peace.
Let’s start with provision, He says that we do not have to worry about what we will eat or drink because He will provide for us, we are more valuable than birds He says. The problem is that we always think about the future, God wants to bless our moments, so when God blesses you with your daily bread, say thank you and let Him take care of tomorrow. Let Him be your peace, he will surely provide.
God also promises to protect us, He says no plague will come near our dwelling. This literally means you will not get sick from the virus, and even if you do, He will give strength to your bones and He will be your body’s first line of defense. He will command His angels concerning you to keep you in all your ways. When I go out, I try to remain in the consciousness that angels surround me, it’s pretty cool to think about.
I know you are probably giving some valid excuses why you should be worried, I agree with you, it makes perfect sense that you are worried. That’s why the bible says that “He will give you peace that passeth all understanding”, because worry usually makes sense but being at peace in the middle of chaos doesn’t.
I pray for you that you will release your heart to God and let His peace become yours in the name of Jesus. God is our anchor, not the “working world”, he will surely take care of you, He always does, doesn’t He?
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
